Business Case for Developing Leaders and Managers
In a recession the temptation is to cut back on all spending, and training is often one of the first things to go. Roffey Park (in their annual Management Survey of 900 companies) found that 49% of outperforming organisations were investing in leadership development, compared to only 23% of underperforming organisations. Jo Hennessy, their Director of Research, says "organisations with good leadership tend to be more strategically and financially successful - by identifying and investing in high quality leadership organisations will be able to drive performance".
New research published by Ashridge (Ashridge Management Index 2010) suggests that only 41% of those surveyed believed leaders in their organisation are developed to lead change well. Also, just over half those surveyed say that top leaders in their organisation do not spend sufficient time communicating with staff.
