The Leadership and Management People help SME gain coveted Investors in People award

Interactive Ideas in the top 2% of best employers

Training company, The Leadership and Management People, has been credited with helping Interactive Ideas, an SME value-added distributor of software and technology products, to gain Silver Status by Investors in People. Due to rapid expansion, Interactive Ideas had a requirement for expert training of staff to allow them to move into management and supervisory roles.

After an initial assessment of the training needs, the bespoke training was developed by The Leadership and Management People and used a ‘blended learning' approach which included workshops, e-learning, workbooks, tutorials and project work. Of the staff taking part, some people are training for a full qualification (Level 5 Award in leadership and management, accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management), and others are attending specific sessions.

The Investors in People Standard provides a framework for improving business performance and competitiveness through good practice in human resource development. IiP status is regarded as the benchmark of world class good practice for people management. Launched by the Government in 1991, it is now managed by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (http://www.ukces.org.uk/)

Jane Hatton, Managing Director of The Leadership and Management People said,

"‘Our people are our most important asset' has often been glibly quoted by companies, but in a recession where so much more is required from fewer people it is truer than ever. Leaders and managers face difficult challenges, and successful companies will be ensuring they have all the support, skills and knowledge they need to ensure ongoing health and growth. A programme specifically designed around the unique requirements, culture, context and sector of a company can significantly increase its capacity to flourish. Interactive Ideas recognises that by investing in the talent of their people they will be in a much stronger position to manage the further growth they will no doubt achieve in the coming years, and the IiP award is a fantastic achievement for them."

Michael Trup, Managing Director of Interactive Ideas said,

"Our commitment to developing our team has shown in our results - our sales have tripled over the past three years and we have grown our team by 50%. We worked with The Leadership and Management People to design an innovative and cost effective program to help us build a layer of middle-management. They did a great job in helping us define the core skills needing to be developed and designing a program to do it. The fact that completion of the course earns staff ILM accredited qualifications has added even further to their motivation. When you look down the list of companies that have qualified for Silver Status you see some divisions of multinationals and some government bodies but almost no SMEs, so we are incredibly proud of this award."
